Our Rooms, Ashley Park House Bed & Breakfast Nenagh

In the heart of Ireland lies Ashley Park House. An 18th century country house offering the visitor bed and breakfast (B&B) accommodation on the grandest scale. From the moment you arrive, you are aware that this is no ordinary B&B - Ashley Park House provides a setting of unmatched tranquility and peace. A worthy respite from the rigours of modern living.

The house was fully renovated in 1993 with most rooms being redecorated in 2003. In particular, the drawing room and the red dining room were completely upgraded using fabrics and wall paper from Zophany and Colefax and Fowler. The verandah floorboards, hand rails and supports have all been replaced and repainted (just the roof to go!), which now enables guests to stoll out of the rooms on warm summer nights.

The Red Room

The Red RoomThe Red Room is one of the favourite rooms in the house. Palacial in size, the room includes a large sitting room linked to the bedroom through a broad arch. The room also has a sizeable ensuite bathroom off the bedroom.

Called the red room after the vivid and sumptuous recent redecoration, the room houses a substantial four poster bed, with an elegant chaise-longe at its foot, giving the room its alternative monikor of "The Four Poster Room". A favourite with couples, the size of the suite makes it ideal for family groups as well.

The Yellow Room

The Yellow RoomThe Yellow Room overlooks the courtyard, a hive of activity at feeding time when Sean tends to his flocks of doves. The view takes in the dovecote to the left, the stables in the near distance and the tall trees of the walled garden beyond. Tucked away to the right is the kitchen garden, soon to become the tennis courts.

The room was redecorated in a bright yellow striped wallpaper with emerald green curtains echoing the 'Ashleypark Green' colour used on all exterior woodwork. Fresh white sheets and duvets greet the weary traveller and a restful night's sleep is certain!

The room also has a sizeable ensuite bathroom off the bedroom.

The President's Room

The President's RoomThe President's Room was formerly called the Bishop's room following the stay of Bishop Comisky. Based on stict protocol (and with profound apologies to the Bishop) the room was renamed following the visit of President Mary MacAleese in 1999!

The room holds centre sway at the of the main stair case and overlooks the lake. A large brass bed fills the centre of the room with antique wardrobes and dressing tables adding to the character. The room's ensuite bathroom also has lake views making it very light and airy (and enabling you to take a bath will taking in the birdlife across the lake)!

Paul's Room

The rooms elegant proportions include the same high ceilings found throughout Ashley Park and the original wooden floor boards are overlain by fine rugs. The room is well appointed with other original features including the ceiling plasterwork and dado rails.

The brass bed is both large and comfortable and the quiet setting ensures that our guests always arise a little later than they might have intended!

The Green Room

The Green RoomIn keeping with the colourful naming of rooms, the Green Room is located at the eastern end of the house. The sizeable room, with views of the lake, has a small sitting room off the main bedroom providing a wonderful spot to curl up with a good book. From the open shuttered windows, guests can take in the rhodadendrum gardens and old tennis lawn with views of the island on the lake beyond.

The room is spacious and often a favourite with families; extra beds can be added if required. The fully carpetted generously sized ensuite bathroom adds to the luxurious setting. Large freestanding wardrobes take care of your clothes allowing you to settle in as if you are at home! On the way into the room, note the small linen cupboard let into the stone wall.

A real Jane Austin Experience

We would highly recommend Ashley Park for those of you who wish to experience an authentic 200 year old house. Sean, the owner, is a tonic and an inspiration to us all and his daughter Margaret was wonderful, very welcoming and warm. The room we stayed in was enormous with two double beds one of which was a fabulous four...Read more
